52 countries have ratified the High Seas Treaty, the world’s first ever law to protect our imperilled global oceans and the beautiful creatures who call them home. Just 8 more countries are needed before it becomes reality. Australia hasn’t signed yet. Let’s sign and share Action for Dolphins’ petition urging them to ratify the treaty by the end of this year.
Win: the High Seas Treaty has been ratified!
One of our actions in August 2025 was to urge Australia to ratify the High Seas Treaty. The threshold of ratification by 60 countries has now been met, so the treaty will enter into force, ushering in a new era of marine protection. Disappointingly, Australia was not among the countries to ratify, but this is still a huge win.
