I’m already car-free, child-free, vegan, volunteering, politically active, donating regularly, and working for a charity, so I’m coming to this as a supporter with, hopefully, constructive feedback to make further improvements:
I could not find the PDF guide.
Region-specific info is missing (as with Wynes & Nicholas 2017, there’s almost no Australian data – a challenge for advocates here, as people claim overseas stats don’t apply).
The focus on climate neglects other planetary boundaries.
The diet-shift web page could be much more inspiring and urgent given the importance and accessibility of this step in HICs where it’s needed most.
I was surprised that ‘eat plants’ appears third out of the impactful individual ‘consumer’ actions, given the IPCC finds it’s the most significant demand-side climate mitigation measure.
It’s disappointing that many of the non-personal actions fall into not just climate tunnel vision but fossil-fuel tunnel vision. Again, this lets the LULUCF sector off the hook – in particular, animal agriculture.
A pity to imply that your vote matters more than other actions with the homepage messaging: a vote is, in many instances, useless (especially in the UK’s first-past-the-post system) and can cause complacency or whataboutism among people whose lifestyles and other choices are causing far more destruction and pollution than is ethical on a global ‘shrink and share’ basis.
Despite the above areas for improvement, I’m really impressed. In particular, kudos for:
The 5 roles framework.
The vital homepage stats showing 40–80% of emissions cuts being down to citizens’ choices and $38k/yr+ being in the top 10%.
Great advice to donate without perfect information and not to exclude organisations with hard-to-measure ROI.
Love that you have teaching resources.
Nice design.
Personal touches about who’s behind the project.
No glaring AI language. Great also that you link to academic papers.
More projects like this are needed given the appalling inaction and silence by governments (with media collusion – for example, recent Global North heatwave coverage not mentioning anthropogenic warming or the urgency of a just transition away from fossil fuels and animal agriculture). A section debunking common myths and misconceptions would be great too in this new age of alternative facts and mis/disinformation. Could you partner with takethejump.org and expand your scope and reach?
